Patients may experience swelling, redness, pain, bruising, tenderness, or itching at the injection site. Other common side effects may include headache or lump formation. These side effects are typically mild and last less than a week in clients receiving nasolabial fold injections or less than 14 days in those receiving lip injections.

Occasionally a person may experience more serious side effects including delayed onset infections, an outbreak of herpetic eruptions, or superficial necrosis at the site of injection. These side effects, although serious, are extremely rare. A very infrequent, yet serious risk of using any soft tissue filler such as this, is the unintentional injection of the product into a blood vessel.
